Karachuonyo MP James Rege has asked ODM party leader Raila Odinga to forgive him for rebelling.

Mr Rege, who was accused by a section of party officials of backing Maendeleo Democratic Party candidate Philip Okundi in the Homa Bay Senate by-election, also apologised to party supporters over the decision.

Speaking at Rambira Beach in his constituency on Thursday, an emotional Rege said he supported Mr Okundi because of the shambolic ODM nominations.

He said was ready to work with all elected leaders in Homa Bay County for development.

The MP has been on the spot for his decision to oppose his party’s candidate in the by-election won by Moses Kajwang.

“The people of Homa Bay have spoken and elected Mr Kajwang as their senator. I now invite him to visit Karachuonyo Constituency,” he said.

The move by Mr Rege to publicly apologise to the ODM supporters comes in the wake of calls by the party’s national chairman John Mbadi that all rebel MPs apologise to Mr Odinga.

Mr Rege and his Rangwe counterpart George Oner backed Mr Okundi.
